Hero HXR 250R is a Buell-Designed Honda Fighter

Hero had shocked everyone when it debuted the HX250R earlier this year. Showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo India, the HX250R is Hero's first complete in-house development without any inputs from its erstwhile partner Honda. The HX250R has been designed and engineered in collaboration with the company's technology partner Erik Buell Racing, AVL and Engines Engineering: enriching it with typical sports calibre.


Hero MotoCorp unveiled its first pure quarter-liter sports bike, HX250R in New Delhi in 2014 but due to some reasons, Hero didn't launch the production model of HX250R in Indian market. Meanwhile, the sales of Karizma R and ZMR, touched a new bottom, and both Karizmas were discontinued last year. Hero showcased the production-spec model of HX250R @ the Auto Expo 2016. It is now known as HX250 and the company also released the exact power, torque and top speed of the bike. Hero HX250 develops maximum power of 31 BHP @ 9000 rpm with maximum torque of 23 NM @ 7000 rpm. The company claimed top speed of HX250 is 165 kmph and it can cross the 0-60 kmph mark in just 2.7 seconds. As per the latest details available, Hero will launch the HX250 in 2nd half of 2016.

Coming back to Hero HX250R, it is a completely stunning modelby Hero which is sure to give a tough competition to Honda CBR250R, Pulsar RS200 and KTM RC 200 due to its spectacular design and extraordinary power and performance figures. It has been designed and developed by the joint effort of the Hero MotoCorp Limited and their partners in technology, Erik Buell Racing, Engines Engineering and Austrian company AVL.


Design and Style

Hero HX250 has got a lot of features to completely bedazzle you and make you forget other bikes in its segment which includes twin multi-reflector headlights, front and rear turn indicators, black rear view mirrors, sports bike type positioned handlebar and footrests, Fireblade-like styling, a stylish under-seat exhaust and 17-inch alloy wheels

The bike will come with split seat set-up, a rear grab handle, LED tail light, a well sculpted fuel tank, stylish body graphics and LED position lamps. As far as looks are concerned, HX250R has god mixed reviews, some people liked the design a lot but according to some, the bike is over-done and doesn't look good from some angles.

Dimensions and Instrument Cluster

Hero HX250R has a length of 2085mm, a width of 735mm and a height of 1145mm as its dimensions along with a kerb weight of 139kgs. It has a large wheelbase of 1370mm for a stable ride and a good ground clearance of 145mm for a bump-free ride.

Instrument Console

HX250R has a beautiful instrument panel with a digital fuel gauge and speedometer, an analog tachometer, two digital trip meters, a pass light, a stand alarm and a low fuel and battery indicator.

Engine and Gearbox

Hero HX250 has got an all-new 249cc, 4-stroke, single cylinder, EFI, liquid-cooled, DOHC, all-aluminium engine with a maximum power of 31 bhp and a maximum torque of 23 Nm and is mated with a six-speed constant mesh gearbox. It has a bore and stroke of 81mm and 48.5mm respectively along with a wet multi-plate clutch.


Performance

Hero HX250R has a company claimhed top speed of 165 kmph and it reaches 60kmph in just 2.7 seconds, which is remarkable. With its light weight and high power, the power to weight ratio is sure to make everyone's eyes pop.

Brakes and Suspension

Hero HX250R has got a combined braking system which includes a 300mm diameter single disc with 3-piston calliper at front and a 220mm diameter single disc at rear. The presence of optional ABS is also a nice addition on top of that. The suspension system consists of high-quality 37mm telescopic forks at front and mono-shock with 5-step adjustable preload and shim valve damping at rear.

Expected Price

Hero HX250 will be available in 2 variantsat an expected ex-showroom, Delhi price of INR 1.30 lakhs for the standard model and INR 1.50 lakh for the ABS variant, which may vary, by mid-2016 to end-2016.


Shades & Verdict

HX250 was initially unveiled in Red/Black shade and an all-new Blue version was also spotted at 2016 Auto Expo. HX250R is a very good effort by Hero, let's see if Hero launches the HX250R at this Auto Expo and will it be able to beat the bikes of Honda CBR250R and the upcoming Suzuki Gixxer 250.
